Obituary for Lonnie Kirk Mathena

Lonnie Kirk Mathena, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on August 27, 2016. He was 83.
Mr. Mathena was born in McComas, West Virginia, to Earnest Robert Mathena and Carolyn Mathena. He was the devoted husband of 62 years to Carol Stafford Mathena, loving father of Larry Kirk Mathena of Havre de Grace, MD, Karen Mathena Taylor and her husband Donald, of Quarryville, PA, Jeanell Mathena, and Lena Mathena Brown and her companion Rex O. Hicks, III, of Havre de Grace, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Jeffrey Taylor, Brian Taylor, D.J. Taylor, Derek Shepard, Xavier Shepard, Laura Brown and Shannon Brown, and great-grandfather of 7. He was the dear brother of Leroy Mathena, Robert Mathena, Freda Hilgartner and the late Vera Baldwin, Thelma Parks, June Bethoulle, Gay Coulter and Larry Mathena.
Mr. Mathena served in the U.S. Navy, on the U.S.S. Salem, during the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was a 7th Degree Black Belt in various styles of Karate and also was a Black Top Karate instructor. He was an avid Orioles and Ravens Fan.
Services will be private.
