Obituary for Michael Dean Smith
Michael Dean Smith, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away at home after a long battle with cancer on Friday, October 11, 2013. He was 64.
He was born in York, Pennsylvania to Dean O. Smith and Delores Meyers Smith. Mr. Smith was the loving & devoted husband of eight years to Billee J. Smith. He was the loving father of Justin Michael Smith of Winooski, VT, Nathan Joseph Smith of Baltimore, MD, and Justin Lee Winters of Baltimore, MD. He was the dear brother of Jeffrey L. Smith of Lancaster, PA, and Constance “Connie” S. Leppo of Dover, PA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Teresa Elaine Smith, his father Dean O. Smith and mother Delores Meyers Smith.
Michael received his Master’s of Science Degree from Florida Institute of Technology. He was a Chemical Engineer with the Department of Defense at Aberdeen Proving Ground for 32 years, retiring in 2005, and continuing his career on a consultant basis with Battelle, Aberdeen, Maryland.
Michael enjoyed his time with family and friends. Recently did a “bucket list” trip with his son and future daughter in law to California. Michael loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Michael was an avid decoy collector and enjoyed travel to the south west.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, and Monday, October 14, 2013 from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Ken Tipton will officiate. Special music will be provided by The Maguire Family.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, 215 Giles Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078, or The Community Projects of Havre de Grace: Opera House Foundation, 224 North Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
