Obituary for Philip James Puente Sr.

Philip James Puente, Sr.


Philip James Puente, Sr., of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on April 27, 2011. He was 77.

He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to the late Manuel and Juana Puente. He was the devoted husband of 59 years to Doris Ruth Fantom Puente. He was the loving father of Carmen Oelke of New Freedom, PA, Philip James Puente, Jr., of Glen Rock, PA, Anna Machovec of Forest Hill, MD, Michael Puente of Finksburg, MD, Marguerite Lee of Englewood, FL, Teresa Pratt of Clemmons, NC, Christina Harman of Valparaiso, IN, Stephanie Adamshick of Severna Park, MD, Stacey Stehle of Rochester, NY, and SSG Thomas Puente of Fort Knox, KY, and their spouses. Mr. Puente was the adored grandfather of 30 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was the dear brother of Consuelo Puente, Emily Nelson, Mary Puente, John Puente, Manuel Puente, Carmen Luna, Virginia Soto, Andrew Puente and Teresa Brown, all of Nebraska, and the late Thomas Puente.

Philip was a Korean War Veteran serving in the 7th Infantry Division and received two Purple Hearts during his service in Korea. He and his wife Doris, were longtime residents of Woodlawn, Baltimore County, MD. After retiring from Baltimore Gas and Electric Company they moved to Havre de Grace, MD. Phil was a long time football and baseball coach for various organizations, including the Woodlawn Optimist Club, Cardinal Gibbons High School, and Mount St. Joseph High School.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 3-8 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 10:00 AM, at the Church of St. Patrick, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Father William O’Brien will officiate. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery in Dundalk, MD.
