Obituary for Rose Evelyn Giles

Rose Evelyn Giles


Rose Evelyn Giles, of Havre de Grace, passed away on July 27, 2010. She was 80.
She was born in Colora, Maryland, to the late Henry Raymond Burkins and Olive Deckman Burkins.

She was the loving mother of Randall Charles Giles and his wife Debra of Aberdeen, MD, Kenneth Charles Giles of Bristol, VA, Rebecca Hogg and her husband Gene of Weston, Florida. She was the adored grandmother of Kimberly Marie Hogg, Tad Giles, Jennifer Giles, and Brian Giles, and great- grandmother of Geniveine Giles and Kendall Workman. She was the sister of Chester Burkins of Perryville, MD, Ruby Butler of Elkton, MD, Margaret Dixon of Colora, MD and the late Frances Miller. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Rita Giles.

Mrs. Giles was extremely active with the Salvation Army, holding the positions of League of Mercy Secretary, Deputy Representative for the Veterans Administration Hospital, and was also a Home League Member. She was a faithful, prayer believing servant of God. She loved her family and friends through beautiful acts of kindness. She loved to bake goodies for her friends and grandchildren and was known as “The Cupcake Lady”. Her gifts were a sweet smile and a caring heart for the sick and forgotten in our community. She spent tireless hours visiting nursing homes and the V.A. hospital on behalf of the Salvation Army. As a mother, she was supportive and loving. As a sister and aunt she was caring and helpful. As a friend she was sweet and loyal. She will be missed dearly.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at The Salvation Army, 300 Seneca Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. A Promotion to Glory service will be held at 11:00 AM. Major Gene A. Hogg will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brian Giles, Tom Miller, Ron Dixon, Sam Dixon, Russell Miller, and Bud Miller. Donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army.
