Obituary for Rose H. Hirschy
Rose H. Hirschy
Rose Hazel Hirschy, of Aberdeen, MD, passed away on October 8, 2012. She was 92.
She was born in Wilmington, DE to the late John Smith and Kathrina Muchak Smith.
Mrs. Hirschy was the devoted wife of the late Luther Clarence Hirschy. She was the loving mother of Judith A. Vanarsdale and her husband Charlie of Havre de Grace, MD, Ronald L. Hirschy and his wife, Wanda, of Havre de Grace, MD, Patricia L. Hirschy and her companion John Pazdar of Weathersfield, CT, Julia H. Rohde and her husband Stephen of Catonsville, MD, and Luther C. Hirschy and his wife Lisa, of Boca Raton, FL. In addition to her five children, Mrs. Hirschy is survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was the dear sister of Anne Evans of Elkton, MD, and her late siblings Michael Smiley, Helen Alfree, and Julia Smith.
Mrs. Hirschy was a registered nurse who worked at Kirk Army Hospital, Perry Point Veterans Hospital, and Edgewood Arsenal Employees Health Clinic. She served during World War II in the U.S. Army as a combat nurse during the China, Burma, and India campaigns. She was a member of the Officers’ Wives’ Club and the China, Burma, India Group. She was a great lover of cats, and enjoyed all of her children and grandchildren, crafts, reading, shopping, gardening, and antiques. She had a zest for life and a wonderful, irreverent sense of humor, liking nothing more than a great laugh.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Dr. Robert T. Clipp will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093, or Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connelly Road, Fallston, MD 21047.
