The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Shirley Mann can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. I only learned today (10-31). My thoughts and prayers go out to Johnny, Carolyn, Kay, Sue, Mary, and the many other members of the family. Shirley was a gem! I loved her ability to laugh and enjoy life, but I will always be most grateful for the encouragement she gave me as a kid. She and her sisters bought several books of hymn arrangements for trumpet and piano to encourage me and Robbie Wright to play in church. (I apologize to those of you who suffered as a result of that generosity!). I am also grateful for the kind words that Shirley took the time to write on my behalf when I needed references for college applications and scholarships. She was my constant advocate! I was looking through a high school yearbook recently when I came across a faded carbon copy of a letter that Shirley had typed for me 36 years ago. I probably didn't deserve the high praise that she provided to the scholarship panel, but I remember the much-needed boost of self confidence I got upon reading that letter as a teen and how I was motivated by Shirley's recognition of whatever potential she might have seen in me. I received that scholarship, I am sure, because of Shirley's willingness to overlook all of the bad and elevate the good. I will always remember Shirley and John fondly as people who loved God and served others unselfishly.
