Obituary for Vernon Albert Eddington

Vernon “Vern” Albert Eddington


Vernon “Vern” Albert Eddington, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on September 3, 2011. He was 90.
He was born in Ridley Township, Pennsylvania, to the late Leon Campbell Eddington and Ray Ora Weckerly Eddington.

Mr. Eddington was the father of Dorothy Anne Eddington of Havre de Grace, MD, and Gary Vernon Eddington of Baltimore, Maryland. He was the adored grandfather of Mallory Lynn Eddington. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Lorraine Stilwell Eddington and his two sisters, Ruth Iduno Eddington and Doris Jeanne Johnson.

Mr. Eddington served in the U.S. Army 301st Ordinance Command during both WWII and the Korean War. Following his service in the Army, Vern worked until retirement as a Logistics Analyst at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He loved to fish, garden, and mentor children, and was like a grandfather to several kids in the Webster Village Community over the years. He loved to solve problems, develop solutions and build things. He even built his own house. Vern served in the Havre de Grace Lions Club for 38 years, supporting the club in various fundraising activities and community projects. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest award a Lion can receive. He was also a member of the Aberdeen Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 6, from 6-9 PM, and from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, September 7, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, September 7, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
