Obituary for Eugene Monroe Allison

Eugene Monroe Allison, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on February 2, 2014. He was 92.
Mr. Allison was born in Groveport, Ohio to Ira Allison and Hazel Taylor Allison.
Mr. Allison was the husband of the late Rita Marie Allison. He was the long-time companion of Ramona Siler. He was the devoted father of John R. Allison and wife Betty Allison of Bel Air, MD, Joyce A. DiPietro and husband Frank DiPietro of Havre de Grace, MD, and Julia Sheets and husband Dr. Charles Sheets of Havre de Grace, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Angelique Simmons, Justine Zorn, Nika Allison, Concetta Shipp, Monique Gilkison, Alison Sheets Singer and Adam Sheets. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Donna Flanagan, Monna Ashcraft, the late Howard “Babe” Allison, and the late Dora Hummel.

Mr. Allison served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served in World War II and Korea. He then worked until retirement at Aberdeen Proving Ground, then worked for a private contractor at Fort Meade until his health forced his final retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 47, VFW Post 8126, and the Aberdeen Moose Lodge. He was a skilled craftsman and carpenter and enjoyed making and fixing things. He also enjoyed HO scale trains and camping in his travel trailer.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 4-7 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 12:30 PM. Father William J. O’Brien will officiate. Interment will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Sheets, Frank DiPietro, Bryan Baley, Russell Gilkeson, Daniel P. Ward, and Edwin Shipp.
