We were friends for over 60 years. In the mid-1950s we worked together at the White Sands Proving Ground (Now, the White Sands Missile Range.) in New Mexico. In 1958 I departed White Sands for a position in the Pentagon and the following year 'Hutch” came to Washington to join the newly established Goddard Space Flight Center where I joined him later that year. In 1965 Hutchison arranged for me to attend the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (now part of the National Defense University), a 10-month course. While I was gone from Goddard, Hutch left to become the Personnel Director at the Library of Congress. Rather than returning to Goddard without Hutch, I accepted a position in NASA Headquarters. On a very personal note, Hutch and Betty Ann were in attendance when I married Pepita Lassalle on September 18, 1974. As the years past, we visited as often as location and age permitted.
Robert W. Hutchison was an outstanding public official as well as a close and dear friend who will be sorely missed.
