Obituary for Peter G. Menegas

Peter G. Menegas of Havre de Grace, MD, formerly a long-time resident of Somers, New York, passed away on November 19, 2015. He was 89.
Mr. Menegas was born in Queens, New York, to George Peter Menegas and Louise Renz. He was the devoted husband of almost 60 years to Rosalie Scialabba Menegas, loving father of Jeffrey G. Menegas, MD, and his wife, Eileen A. Menegas, RN, BSN, of Matawan, New Jersey, and of Leslie A. Green, RN, MSEd, and her husband, Paul J. Green, of Somers, NY. He was the adored grandfather of Molly Leigh Wright and her husband, Jeffrey Wright, SGT Army National Guard, of Flushing, NY.

Mr. Menegas served the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, as a tail-gunner on a B-24 “Liberator.” Following the war he worked as a medical photographer, first at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and later as a freelancer. He was a talented photographer, and it remained one of his passions throughout his life. He was also an amazing cook, and loved to entertain people with his jokes and wry sense of humor, which he put on display as a contestant on the game show, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Mr. Menegas often took care of stray animals, and was an avid supporter of the A.S.P.C.A. and other rescue organizations. He was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.

Services for Mr. Menegas will be private. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Harford County Humane Society, 2208 Connolly Rd, Fallston, MD 21047, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675
